returning in October to tell us about the artists on board the “Beagle”, will guide us first round some of the paintings in the museum, and then take us round
the fabulous collection of model ships. There will also be time for free exploration. Tickets on sale at the June meeting. Wednesday 10th November “Maker of Myth” The exhibition explores Gauguin’s innovative and unique method of storytelling featuring
over one hundred works from public and private collections around the world. It includes letters, water colours, ceramics and carvings. Tickets on sale at the
September meeting. Thursday 2nd December 7.15pm Harpenden Worthies A talk in Park Hall, Harpenden. 2011 Wednesday 2nd March The final trip before the present visits team retire is a visit to the Royal Institution and a walking tour of the area.
2010 Wednesday 12th May Hampton Court Palace A visit to an old favourite with a difference. There will be two tours in the morning: one led by Linda Collins will focus on the tapestries and paintings, then the groups will swap for a tour led by Siobhan Clarke on everyday social history connected with the palace. In the afternoon Chris Stevens, Superintendent of the Queen’s Paintings, will talk to us on painting conservation and, if possible, take us to see work in progress. Tickets on sale at the March meeting. Wednesday 7th July The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford
A trip to Oxford to see the exciting new galleries. The morning is free for independent viewing with the afternoon set aside for a guided tour of the galleries. These depict the connections between objects and activities of different cultures through the interaction of the cultures of east and west during ancient and modern times.
